Raoul Wallenberg Day is designated by the Government of Canada. For six months, between 1944 and 1945, Wallenberg, a young Swedish diplomat, saved tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews from certain death. After the Red Army entered Budapest, Wallenberg vanished. His fate at the hands of the Soviets remains unknown.
Rosenstrasse
Winner of the 2004 David Di Donatello Award for Best European Film. Selected
for the Venice, American Film Institute and Toronto International film festivals.
In Berlin, in 1943, on a street called "Rosenstrasse", Jewish men were rounded up for deportation to concentration camps and certain death. Based on a true story, their "Aryan" wives stood up to the Nazis and protested, successfully, to save the lives of their Jewish husbands and sons. The legacy of these women is one of courageous action in the face of tyranny and injustice.
