THE PLAY
Mounted at the request of Action Week Against Racism, this play was presented in Montreal and in Quebec City in 2003-2004. No More Raisins, No More Almonds: Children's Ghetto Songs is written by Holocaust survivor and educator Batia Bettman and directed by Bryna Wasserman, Artistic Director of the Leanor & Alvin Segal Theatre at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts.

THE IMPACT
This hour-long play is based on a dozen songs written during the Holocaust about the experiences of children and teenagers in the ghettos of World War II Europe. It is presented in English with the songs in their original Yiddish. The entire play is translated through English and French subtitles. There are 60 student performers on stage, the majority of them from Bialik High School, Montreal.

POST PERFORMANCE DISCUSSIONS
A skilled animator guides meaningful post-performance discussions between the students on stage and in the audience. Questions have ranged from personal experiences of racism or human rights abuses to historical questions and the face of genocide today. Students can participate in the discussion in either English or French.

TEACHER'S GUIDE & PRE-PERFORMANCE PREPATORY SESSIONS
Pre-performance preparatory sessions with survivors are available. There is a Teachers' Guide that encourages students to continue their reflection.
